In January of 2005, I received an invitation from Dr. Wesley Magruder, mission director of United Methodism’s work in Cameroon, to help the young leaders of Cameroonian Methodism create their first hymnal/worship book. We called it the Cameroon Hymnal Initiative (CHI).

What you’ll find on this page are a series of reports and teaching aids I’ve prepared to tell the story of the CHI and some pictures from my travels in Cameroon. The relationships I formed there will last my whole life, and I’m grateful to the members of the hymnal team for all their hard work and dedication. When the book is published, we’ll put portions of it on this website.

In the summer of 2008, I was invited to be part of a team of six from the United States who traveled to Côte d’Ivoire at the invitation of the United Methodist Church there. We worked with a faculty of musicians from Côte d’Ivoire to give encouragement and basic instruction to 44 gifted teenage musicians. Just click on “Côte d’Ivoire 2008" to read that report.
