The Lord God Decided

Tune: SIMPLE GIFTS (Often sung with the hymn, “Lord of the Dance”)

The Lord God decided when the world was begun,

when the seas brimmed with fish and the stars had been flung,

there was still something missing from the master plan,

so the Maker proclaimed, “I’ll make woman and man.”

Refrain:

Dance, friends, God’s love is here to stay!

Sing and rejoice on this wedding day!

As in Cana, there’s a miracle today

from the hand of the One who is the Way.

With the dust of the earth the Creator began

to fashion the eyes and the ears and the hands.

And with each gentle sculpting of the nose and chin,

you could see God’s  resemblance reflected within.

Refrain:

They were made for each other, they were meant to be

partners in love and in creativity.

God has now picked two others, and their role is defined:

to be models for love in the post-Eden times.

Refrain:

Bless the vows that they whisper and the rings that they wear;

guide their feet, give them strength, wing their hope, hear their prayer;

Lord, employ us to nurture them in all they do,

make us life-long companions devoted to You.

Refrain:
