Abram Never Wavered
Abram never wavered.
The call was plain and clear.
The living God said, “Leave this land.
I have a global blessing planned,
And you will lead my chosen band.
Don’t worry, I’ll be near.”
Refrain:
God calls us to a journey.
Our faithful forebears walked ahead
And now we go where they have led,
For God has made a way.
Amos bellowed daily.
His message was abrupt.
I hate your worship, says the Lord;
Your solemn meetings leave me bored,
Your music strikes a tuneless chord.
In truth, it’s all corrupt.
Refrain:
God calls us to a journey.
Our faithful forebears walked ahead
And now we go where they have led,
For God has made a way.
Men and women wonder:
Am I equipped for this?
Would I say “Yes” if God said “Go”?
And what if justice doesn’t flow?
Or half way there, God whispers, “Whoa!”
I’m thinking ‘hit or miss.’
Refrain:
God calls us to a journey.
Our faithful forebears walked ahead
And now we go where they have led,
For God has made a way.
Here we test the water
through study, work and prayer.
We wade in all the church’s streams,
from ancient texts to current dreams,
we look for faith’s recurring themes.
We’re splashing everywhere.
Refrain:
And now we make the journey
with mind and heart in harmony
so knowledge links with piety.
And God will show the way.
